The evidence presented
for all to look and see
and looking at the ancient rock,
see many different things.
Science sees great pressures
of rock deformed and shaped;
Design sees rock unchanged
save by events of late.
The evidence presented
for all to look and see
and looking at the living earth,
see many different things.
Science sees such changes
of eons long slow pace;
Design sees life unchanging,
deposited in place.
Science and Design,
they stand so far apart;
and speak they do in fiery tones
wrapped up in different tongues.

Yep, I can see how right from the start it’s you – even when the subject echoes bitter feelings and hatred; in your poem there is a soft almost humorous tone. For me, the last stanza was the most significant. While most of the poem follows the common (but erroneous) perception that we have two competing “theories”, it’s in fact a Babylonian meeting of two languages – where two communities (one of the science and the other of the faith ) talk at each other with no real communication. The science community speaks of theories which must be shown to be “disprovable” to qualify as such; the faith community talks about its “theory”, which is a misnomer as it actually presents an article of faith, which could never be disproved. The model of two languages which you touch on, points to a different paradigm, not that of opposing or distant point of views but that of parallel or of different dimensions on the same world. ‘Just’ for rousing the minds you deserve all the credits.
Leon, You treat this touchy subject so lightly -- a bite of satire this morning. I got a howl at that ending -- speaking in tongues! CP
fairly new to Lit, fairly new to your work, I am reading, absorbing, digesting, learning, enjoying but mostly loving! Thank you, you feed my mind and my heart. Kiss, Anna
I am starting to hate how the religous facists are taking perfectly good words and making them ugly. In this case they take the words intelligent design and turn them into an oxymoron. Nice write.
