Waking up to a world of screams
Groggily watching the world ablaze
Observing a building of shattered dreams
A city covered in a grey soot haze

And they tell us we live in interesting times

Lives sacrificed only to take more life
The gift of flight used only to destroy
Nations crying out for such terrible strife
No understanding why such evil is employed

And they tell us we live in interesting times

A symbol of unity, democracy, pride
A symbol of defense, war, freedom
Taken to rubble with our eyes open wide
Scratched at the surface, while the heart sits beneath them

And they tell us we live in interesting times

Flight crashed into a hillside near bare
A marvel of machinery, the gift of flight
Innocents and animals the only things there
Used as a bullet for a cause unknown in the eyes of the plight

And they tell us we live in interesting times

In ignorance we cry out against Palestine, Asia, the World
Screaming for the loss of life and families crippled
Forgetting the lives taken and others unheard
Hatred running rampant from a weapon so simple

And they tell us we live in interesting times
