It Is For Him I Dance

The intrigue of dance,
The power of the music
The sway of the body.
Half dim lights
The smell of whiskey perfumes the air.
To take leave of self
become the woman on the stage
Leaving the real me behind
 one song at a time.
Look through lustful eyes looking up at you
Seeing no one behind them
Only hear the song.
Becoming lost in a sensuous tune
The feel of my own body
I touch what they see
What they long to feel.
Half closed bedroom eyes
Focused on theirs
What do they really see when they look at me?
The bend of the body
The move of the hips
Licking of lips
Exposing glassy eyes that see nothing.
A sad face
Lonely and needy
All a part of the dance.
I live the sound of the music
A smoke filled room
The clatter of glass
The feeling of being on display.
So I close my eyes
Taking myself far away
I see that one face
That special one I have tried so hard to find
Perhaps not real
Not flesh and blood
But it is for him I dance.
