Often I’ve won
a wistful smile
been sought for advice
counseled a friend
I longed to kiss
been thanked
told I’m nice
sensitive
wise
gentle
or kind
only to find
when all’s said and done
I’m left behind
lonely

Sometimes I think
the only one
who didn’t want
to hit
hurt
deceive
deprive these souls
deny them
the hope
healing
feelings of fulfillment
they seek
deserve

Then I stop
reconsider
shed bitter tears
knowing I am all
and none
just one
of many
struggling for sanity
sanctuary
peace and
love

i can relate....

and it seems at times that being overlooked is just par for the course. i enjoyed the read as it brought back situations all to close.

I liked it

while it isnt as up to the same standard as your other poems, it holds its own, for what you are trying to say, the message comes clear on through. You are the one, the one who has been there, like the old saying, nice guys finish last, but hey, at least youre the nice guy and that scores huge points with me ;)

I know that feeling

I've been in that situation time and again, and I think I know the way you think and reason here. But in a way, each stanza is a pretty stand-alone statement, only loosely related to the others in terms of core message. It all gets a little ambvivalent... maybe that's the whole point?

Not sure

I liked the overall feel and the look of the poem, but the second stanza left me unsure. Did you omit something, or am I reading it wrong?
