Last Night

It was hot on my cot
In the south Central MoMo

No light
Just the neon glow
From the crib next door

The sheets on my twin
Were salty wet
Not just from the heat

The cranky air conditioner
An incessant roar
Like the tide
As I tried to glide
Into sleep

But I had nowhere to go
On the 'morro

I clenched my teeth
As I tried to reach deep
Into my soul
To find surcease
From my worry

My sad worry
Nowhere to go
My last dime spent
On this night's rent

And so with the dawn
I'll be gone
Where
I don't know
