Take a moment
If you will
And listen without speaking
Lend your love
Without conditions
And your heart
Without a care

Allow yourself
To be forgotten
And in forgetting
Think of others
And be loving and protecting
Caring tenderly

Step outside your inner being
See the hurt and pain
Around you
Hear the pleading
And the whispers
Smell the fear
That sears your soul

Take from this a lesson
That your own misfortunes
Pale
Greatly, in respect
To all the world’s
Dreadful woes

It is a lesson
That will teach you,
As it taught me long ago,
To be selfless
And to truly
Show the world
Somebody cares.
