I found zen
in the dictionary

it was under a pressed red rose
from a memorable time
I no longer remember
why I laid it on words
with meanings of depth,
perception and knowledge
yet, it was in a state of being;
zen

there was so much beauty
when days unfolded
like a rose's pedals
when the flower blossomed
nouns and verbs came alive
with fragrances of hope
opening oneself up to the sun
embracing the warmth from above
looking upward,
swaying in the wind
thoughtless as a rose
believing in miracles
and magic moments

then, zen was like
pages fresh and new
now tattered, worn
and stained by age,
pressed for time
as dormant as a word in a book
that holds leafs
of timeless beauty
words spill liken a koan
that temporarily soothes the soul
the head bowed, humble
looking at the ground
hoping to be well grounded

I found solace
in a rose's tomb
where the definition
lay in riddles,
like enlightenment
in a dictionary, on a shelf
next to a Holy book
I looked up,
Zen
