When the last of my strength
Finally gives way.
When the rope I hang by
Has reached the end.
When the knots I tied
Start to fray away.
When the Sun I walk towards
Shines its last ray.
When the ground beneath me
Crumbles to dust.
When the water I drink
Evaporates and rises up.
When the warmth I long for
Suddenly turns cold.
When my heart that beats for you
Suddenly bleeds for you.
When the night I thought of fondly
Becomes the most painful memory.
When the words you spoke
Suddenly are said no more.
When the place I called home
Now has closed doors.
When my soul that was complete
Grows a hole in its center.
When the post I send
returns every letter.
When the air I breathed so sweetly
Turns acrid in my lungs.
When kisses I tasted
Turn sour with time.
When places I cared for
Become daggers in my side.
When songs that played for us
Make me want to die.
Then... and only then...
Have I realized...
Love is necessary.

LeBrozover 17 years agoJust a suggestion, but it might have even greater impact if it were about half its length; pull out those lines with lesser impact and those that remain will cut even deeper. Play with it a bit and see what you think.
