Love’s lies leave you longing for truth
Looking over your shoulder
For small details
Obvious failures
Missed
Which if noticed
Addressed
would rectify the situation

An unspoken word,
one more properly chosen
Might change the whole relationship
Right it’s course
Provide a source
of more honest communication

Slips of the tongue
Aided by emotional banana peels
Thrown before you
trip you up
Paranoid gyrations
Sire the manifestation
Of bruised egos, broken promises,
Buried secrets

No running when the boil bursts
Spewing forth it host
No avoiding “How could you?”, “Why would you?”,
“I trusted you”
No compress strong enough to ease the flow,
salve soothing enough to heal the wound
Festering, scarring over
Only to become a pockmark
Permanently posted for daily display
A roadmap of love sought, lies told,
Love lost
