                                                    Loving Cup

                                                      12/09/10

Languid, with almost a liquid slowness

                             Their bodies regretfully untangle

As the rain and sleet pelt the window pane

They hide from the growing storm

The fire burns low, reduced to a deep red glow

Like their fulfilled passion and desires

Earlier their lust for each other, flared and flamed

As the fire burned bright and hot in the hearth

The surrender to each other was total and complete

Unconditional as well as blissful, loving and kind

Their bodies moved in the rhythm of love, unrehearsed

Following the simple dance of acres wild

A dance as pure as the love they hold in the silver chalice

                               Of their bodies ...

A loving cup...that they both drink from.

I really liked this one.

The writing is lovely, the pace perfect for the poem. The fire/passion metaphor is a bit of a cliche but this is a pretty solid poem.
