You see the bruises on
the battered and fragile women
and you just stare.

You feel lucky it's not you.

You pass up the old man
at the corner who begs
for a hot meal but you don't care .

You feel lucky it's not you.

You hear screams of pain
from the wounded
war heroes but you push the sounds away.

You feel lucky it's not you.

You see the druggie
down the street with dark eyes
filled with sadness but you think of him as a stray..

You feel lucky it's not you.

One day if you should ever
be in any of those situations
just hope that the person who sees you will not feel lucky.

great voice

your poem spoke to me instantly and that doesn't happen very often. you have good command of the word.

Strong sentiments

but a bit watered down. Thoughts like this deserve all the forcefulness you can give them. Edit and empower. Speak with rage. Keep going!

as a society

we are judged by how we treat those less fortunate than ourselves. It is good to see that someone realizes this and has the inner strength to point out .

You do have a strong voice, I enjoy reading your work, keep it up :)
