Author's Note: These are intended as song lyrics. I have a Country tune in mind, but feel free to fit them to Death Metal, Salsa, or whatever.

I.

so full of youth
when we first met
no notice of
the path we'd set

when we kissed
the clock stood still
try as we could
we couldn't get our fill

we spent hours only
lying together
barefoot daydreaming in the heather

drawing pictures
in the sky
laughing when
the clouds blew by

we were
lying together
holding hands, drifting off wherever

everything would be all right
as long as we were
lying together

II.

we didn't notice
as our summers passed
we fit our life
to a mold we cast

we each kept growing
but our union stayed
as it had always been
we saw our picture fade

through the changes we kept
lying together
looking through the past at each other

holding tight
to share the heat
while Autumn's leaves
blew down the street

as we were
lying together
searching for some shelter from the weather

we managed to make it through the nights
as we kept on
lying together

III.

the sun hangs low
in the evening sky
apart we lay
no tears left to cry

we promised to love
until death we'd part
now the words ring hollow
from two empty hearts

we both know we're only
lying together
our eyes close when we say the word "forever"

what we say
we can't believe
it's only ourselves
that we deceive

we're only
lying together
we lost ourselves, don't recognize each other

after all the love and all the fights
must we keep on
lying together?

[Fade]

lying together
once so tender, now we're tough as leather

can't we rise
from where we lie?
let's speak the truth
or say goodbye

we're only
lying together
our eyes close when we say the word "forever"

we say we want it
no matter the cost
but both of us
know what we've lost

we're only
lying together
we lost ourselves, don't recognize each other

we've been lying
since we started
maybe the time's come
that we parted

Lying Together

How good a song will depend on the tune and tempo you select.

"barefoot daydreaming in the heather"

Ah, isn't heather rather hard on barefeet??

good song

Definitely a song, but I liked it.
