Do you remember
all those years gone by
like embers sparking off
the fire we sat around
roasting marshmallows
(for their own sake, not
for any s'mores) in the
lazy humid haze of one
more summer's passing?

Me either.

It seems like they all
just happened and we
turned around to find
that the end of summer
had been a start of, well,
nothing much of anything.
Work, eat, sleep, repeat.
If lucky, throw in a movie
or a night spent with friends
trying to recapture those
summer nights.

And the mornings after.

ouch

oh man is that an accurate piece. Immensely well done, even if it did mess with my head. Anyone in a long term relationship knows this sensation.

Love the "me either" line and "trying to recapture those summer nights. And the mornings after." Good poem!

You got me!

I was so grooving on the first stanza - then I read "Me either." and almost fell from my chair! Love this piece!

Companionship needs to be enough, for its own sake, not a constant party. I love how you describe the atmosphere and draw parallels to living inside a short vignette. This poem mentioned on the New Poems Review thread on Literotica's Poetry Feedback and Discussion forum.
