What time is it here?
I really don't know
is it sunny outside
or starting to snow,
Am I east or west
of the longitude mark
if the sun is shinning
why is it dark?

Turn on the computer
turn on the Skype
pull up your number
and start to type,
"hey, what're doin'
wish you were here
we could watch each other
make love in the mirror,"

Just like the old days
when travel was fun
those deserted beaches
nude in the sun,
No computer
no smart this or that
a pair of old sneakers
a giveaway hat,

We met in Nairobi
New Stanley Hotel
warm Tusker beers
stories to tell,
Hitched our way south
all the way to the shore
buses and trucks
eager for more,

Then we got old
step closer to heaven
with techo-devices
twenty-four / seven,
Hotel rooms
with king-size duvets
lonely nights
and longer days,

I long for the frolic
irresponsibly young
late-night camp fires
songs to be sung,
Love to be made
sex to be traded
this Modern World
is, I think, overrated,

Reflective

Ah, the pull of memories, of youth and passion released. But now. . .? The familiar style of short lines gives a sharp edge to these reflections.
