August feels right: days warm,
sun on my back -
but this morning I found

sudden toadstools
in the tall grass, their thin
stems and hoods of paper,

grey, fragile like Degas
tutus, as a frayed reminder
of cold days to come.

Simply.....

...beautiful. I loved the reference to Degas tutus. A five.

Ah, yes, the line between seasons...always so full of mixed images. You captured one of them quite well.

Good to see your writing demure

Love the comparison!

This summer I found a mushroom the size of large grapefruit. It was heavy and imagined it was full of earwigs!

You could excel in classic haiku, I bet.
