Morpheus calls to me and I answer
My eyelids close, I enter his world
No escape for me
This is my nightly punishment

What tricks, what pains, what tortures?
What does he have in store for me?
Will he let me finally reach her?
Or as always, will I awake before I kiss her?

Months have passed since I began to dream of her
She was beautiful in life
She is beautiful in death, beautiful in my dreams
Why does he torture me so?

I lie in my bed and think
How can I escape his clutches?
Are there was of me to avoid him?
Can I not awake without her?

She is there, I see her
Her long dark hair flowing in the breeze
As she sits in the field of wild flowers
Smelling each before placing it with the others

I call out her name, she does not respond
Morpheus is about, torturing me
I cry out to him
“Let me touch her!”

She looks my way and smiles
Her eyes are bright, her smile loving
She holds out her arms and runs to me
I run to her, hoping we can touch

I can reach her, Morpheus will allow
As I anticipate her softness once again
As I remember the smell of her hair, of her neck
Darkness befalls us

I lie awake in my bed and stare at the ceiling
The night shadows have given way in the dawn light
I cry as her smell is still with me
Morpheus tortures me once again

Very poignant

This is a masterful poem of grief.
