My lover
I watch you sleep, curled up in a ball
as though to protect yourself from a blow.
I guess that we are our most vulnerable in sleep.
I trace ever so lightly the edge of your jawline,
the outline of your lips,
the contour of your leg.
I wonder how someone so strong, so determined, so rock-steady
in the waking world
could ever be vulnerable, ever consider himself vulnerable.
I guess when you open a chink in the wall,
anything can happen.
Thank you for letting me in your wall.
