Pat my hair.
Waiting for one eye to
Crack itself into the
Dazzle of sunbeams floating
Over my bed.
As soon as I've given
Away that I may not
Be so deep in sleep, I
Hear quiet, whispered,
Waking words breathed
Gently in my ear,
"Wake up Mommy,
The sun's up,
It's wake up time!"
These sweet words
Force a smile on my
Tired lips as I attempt
To enjoy a few more
Minutes of half sleep.
Wondering, "If I do not
Move, will she let me
Sleep?" But I know
The answer.
Her morning fingers move
From my hair to the
Soft spot below
My ear where she
Commences with my
Morning tickle.
As my giggling subsides
And my eyes creak open,
I see the beauty of
Her big, brown eyes
And her smile, so
Genuine and full of
Life.
As I reach my arms
Toward the light, she
Throws herself around
My neck and says
"I love you VERY much
Mommy."
And as I hold her
Close all I can say
Is, "I love you very
Much, too Monkey".
