i become the sea water when i swim
and my spirit flies on ocean breezes.
i marvel at the design of the earth
but, i’m dissatisfied, it’s not enough.

i sketch faces that glow with loveliness,
paint wild landscapes with no human presence,
try my rude hand at clever writing, but
i can’t unlock the heart’s hieroglyphs.

i exploit the lusts of men for pleasure
and in turn offer them their use of me.
i luxuriate in rare liberties
but i’m not fulfilled and i’m not sated.

i want to navigate the night with hawks,
put the moon in my soft belly, summon
holy Avalon from the mists and bathe
the naked Goddess in royal jelly.

i want to plumb Irkalla’s depths, hear the
death whistles of Macondo, kiss Shiva’s
feet as he immolates all creation -
i want to accept the invitation.

i want to cradle the hornet’s nest and
unsheathe scimitars of flesh. i want to
distill the universe and swallow it
like clover honey – but, it’s not enough,
it never is.
