we settle into the frothy warmth
she rests her head against my chest
in our little sea of bubbles

a toast to the year gone by
the pure ring of crystal
a taste of ‘85 CHARDONNAY

soft jazz tiptoes in from the bedroom
the flames dance seductively
flickering their light throughout

she is slipping into the mood
to be carried down the path
of soft tender love making

long into the first night
passions keep us stirred
till we succumb to sleep

nestled together
dreaming the same dream
of the legacy of love
