Ladybugs toddle along a window screen
letting in a warm sunny breeze
We've had an Indian summer afternoon

I walk out as twilight falls
The end of October is upon us
November will soon be here
with its grey skies and dreary rain
Perhaps even snow
But for tonight I revel in
country fields aglow in
the soft light of the moon
as gauzy clouds float by

A warm breeze tugs my hair
softly scented of dry leaves
Changing weather is blowing in
from the south, then the north
Drying leaves shake on the trees
and flutter to the ground

No stars out tonight
just that cloud hazed moon
No streetlights to dim its beauty

Outline of a dark barn door
What might hide in its shadows?
I turn towards the house
A bright light peaks out
through a curtained window
calling me back
