I’ll cut off my head and place a bowl there instead,
So you can pour in your wisdom and see the results.
You’ll be able to check it for cracks and for leaks
Just by looking for droplets on the outer surface.
You won’t have to ask me anymore questions,
You can see for yourself that I caught every word,
Every nuance of your boring philosophy.
Best of all, you’ll be able to see your reflection
Once the ripples subside on the waters surface.
Maybe you’ll see what I have always seen:
An ugly old man, impotent and fading.

With luck, you will know then that I was not inattentive,
I just didn’t care.

vivid

imagery gets me every time. you nailed it. the opening line engraves such a graphic image in my brain, i can see your every action in the following lines. your poetry drips with palpable cynicism that makes it a little more deeply felt.
