On the death of Judy

Death has touched me again,
reached out his cold cold hand
and touched a woman I loved
once
.
Seen death
smelt death
heard Death
caused Death
so many times
so many ways
but never shaken hands
with Death
.
not yet
my turn will come
I know
.
I loved this woman
once
and once
was maybe
not enough for then
but is the now
.
And now
there
are
bright
crisp
red
yellowgolden
memories
crackling and breaking
like dried Autumn leaves
. . .

For Judy

I miss you, Judy. Your easy smile. The way you threw your hip. Your ability to laugh at yourself. You're missed, lady.
