A deep blackness falls around me.
A shroud hiding me from light of the sun.
No longer shining it's warmth on my face
Nor deep within to melt the ice
now clinging to my empty, weary soul.

Happiness is a thing of the past,
a lost memory, a voice not heard.
Loneliness fills this now shattered heart.
In it's wake is left a terrible ache.
I know not how much more it can take.

Once of light, left to the darkness.
This life became an empty void.
Hope and faith are a thing of the past,
as trust was earned and then destroyed.

Charles Spurgeon, a great theologian who suffered bouts of depression, wrote. "There are dungeons beneath the castles of despair." It was likely a reference to "Pilgrims Progress," the Christian allegory by John Bunyan. In it there is Doubting Castle owned by Giant Despair.

I got the sense that you were trapped in such a dungeon when you wrote this poem. Poets often have an emotion that they write best from. Perhaps yours is despair, because this one is really, really good at expressing that emotion. I am the 'knight in shining armor' type of romantic, but I would not rescue you from that dungeon and deny myself some of your best work. Sorry, I can be selfish too.

Very nice work Elizabeth...and as much as it hurts you will find it passes and REAL love will one day fill in that void...MFM

Another dark tale revealing

with great love you risk great pain.

The anquish resonates.
