Only in a poem
There could be
A place of solace
For my rattled mind
Only in a poem
I find slivers
Of my long lost
Broken heart
A shuffling hand
Of an aimless archeologist
Suddenly happens upon
A remnant of two people
Still in love but almost not
A cherished piece.

Fine lines, very effective even in their brevity. 'Only in a poem' ... sometimes that's the only place we can find ourselves. Always a pleasure to read!

Shakespearean Sentiments

Sonnet XVIII - the couplet at the end speaks to the feeling in your poem. Hope you don't mind if I share the lines here: "So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,/So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Careful how you dust it!

That archaeologist must needs be careful how he handles "A remnant of two people/Still in love but almost not." Use the finest brush! Preserve what's left...

You have a way

of writing lines I wish I had thought of, like "...A shuffling hand of an aimless archeologist"
