Our Dog Emily

She was a puppy when I found her on the highway.
Someone left her there to die that way.
She had no collar, so we put her in the wagon
Licking my face, her tail never stopped wagging.

Brown in color, she was a scruffy, little mutt but,
She stayed by my daughter Jenny’s side the whole ride.
My kids loved her and named her Emily.
She quickly became part of the family.

One day when Jenny walked alone to school,
The dog followed her, the little fool,
All the way there. She waited for her to come out.
When Jenny didn’t return, Emily went in to scout about.

Jenny started screaming when a man carrying her
Was leaving and getting ready to put her in his car.
Emily grabbed the pervert by the shoe,
Jenny ran home with Emily following carrying the shoe.

Inside the shoe was the man’s identification.
You can’t imagine my gratification
That I stopped on the highway that day.
In my book, Emily is A-okay.
