On a Boeing jet, flying
Pacific-dark night
seats together
discussing our plight,
Victims of chance
the luck of the draw
this aluminum tube
enclosing us all,

Strangers together
for ten lucky hours
held in the sky
by mystic powers,
The drone of the motors
smell of the plastic
my new underwear
with too-tight elastic,

Shoulder-to-shoulder
elbows together
each of us wondering
wondering whether,
What would you do
if I touched your hand
we have five hours
before we land,

Your perfume is subtle
your blouse half revealing
do you have emotion
do you have feeling?
We’ve traded names
home towns and professions
in the dark of the night
subconscious confessions,

Our desires for adventure
new people, new places
does this extend to
new bedroom faces?
We watch one more movie
then each try to snooze
but wake when they offer
more airplane booze,

Plastic wine glasses
we giggle and plan
what do we want
to do, when we land,
In fact or in fiction
our fingers entwined
time may tell
if we’re each other’s kind …
