Sitting there
a picture of
contentment

Sitting on the porch
watching life pass

Did He stay silent
curb that tongue

Desires are rampant
Some , of course,
are inescapable
Lest all dwindle
Life did pass Him by

Silences create a monologue
all their own
Swollen and gaping
tongue protruding
that hangman's noose

who was the final victim
      as life passed Him by
