like a twitching cat held still
impatience dislikes to wait.
Held immobile by force of will,
my desire must supplicate.

I feel I am a waiting pool,
anxious for love’s distraction.
Shimmering like a sullied jewel,
lust holds a strong attraction.

Sense my desire for what will come;
endure the dread of what could be;
realize that this may give joy to some;
but brings only fear’s sad kiss to me.

I now must stay my ardent thirst;
contain the side that craves release;
must not allow the dam to burst.
I war against myself in hopes of peace.

Stifling one’s nature is hard at best;
I am grateful the reward is worth the test.
