The heavy door gives way before my push.
The dim interior's unknown. Yet there's
no wonder or surprise; there's comfort in
acknowledged recognition, in the isle's
soft footfalls. The high roof, dull green and gold
or carved in stern grey stone, the double rows
of heavy pillars lead me onwards, past the pews
up to the altar rail, an unbeliever -
then there's the sudden slant of coloured light
to fill the nave that I have always known.
I sit and watch it slowly cross the choir,
enveloped in tranquillity as long
as my brief stay - until my daughters run
inside to drag me back into the sun.

Great visual

I could certainly picture this scene & sense the overall mood. Good job.
