sitting in the parlor
fingers stroking keys
first black, then white

as we play for time
playing at a piano duet
we linger late in the parlor

when will the old folks go to bed?
so we can play a sweeter song
fingers moving all along
the instrument of my desire

as we dream and scheme
and play the keys together
at an upright piano, in a parlor
some place in the heartlands
somewhere in time long gone
remembering when we were young
