the base-stealing artist
takes a generous lead
as the veteran southpaw
sizes him up like a cat

lefty reads the signs and
as he goes into his stretch
the base-stealing artist
inches futher from the bag

suddenly there is a
quickthrowtofirst
as the base-stealing artist
divesbacksafe

and on the very next pitch
the base-stealing artist
breaks for second in a
sprint of infamous larceny

the call is a ball and
the throw comes in low
its great but too late
as the artist slides in safe

while the crowd goes wild
the base-stealing artist
stands still as a statue
heroic hands on hips

as he sets his sights on third.

Poem with balls

Meatloaf couldn't have said it better! Hope there's champagne in the lockerroom.
