QUIET BIRD

I came upon
A quiet bird,
He sat there quiet
Not whispering a word.

Only he understood
Why he was alone,
For it was from him
That his mate had flown.

As I sat there watching
And wondering why,
I saw a single tear
Fall from his eye.

Yes, he did not sing
There was no song,
And with this loneliness
Life last not long.

But soon to him
She had returned,
For with his song
Her love he earned.

As she listened him sing
His beautiful love song,
He continued to sing
The whole night long.

And when I saw them
That very next day,
I knew he’d sing forever
If with him she’d stay.

And then I turned
And walked away,
For I knew alone
They should be this day…BWL
