I wrote this several years ago and almost couldn't find it on my hard drive. Even when I did find it, I had to rescue it from near oblivion because the file had become somewhat corrupt. Fortunately, I still had a badly damaged hard copy of it in some papers I'd nearly thrown out. I was sure glad I looked through them before I did or this little tidbit of prose would probably have been lost.
I hope it is enjoyed by all. . . .

A summer breeze tossles my hair as I speed along
over the tree shadows striping the ground.
The sun's warm and steady glow is tempered by the dry air
and the slowly diminishing days.

Only a few great, billowy clouds hang against the azure blue.

My foot just touches her walk as my lady opens the door
and comes to meet me.
I feel my heart beat a little faster as a smile
shines on her lips.
Acting the part of the gentleman, I open the door
for her as we make to depart.

Clouds with natures less than innocent peek over the horizon.

We play the music loud and sing along as the beat
thumps rhythmically in our ears.
Up and down the din goes as we alternate between
singing and talking.
Friends wave to us and shout greetings
as we drive past.

Gradually, more and more of the sky's blue is concealed.

Our drive along the park's winding road is leisurely
and cool in the shade of the tall trees.
Friends and families are plentiful everywhere the eye sees,
their enjoyment of the day plainly evident.

My lady and I smile and share a look as she takes my hand
and our fingers entwine.

Shadows disappear as oft as the sun in the growing gray.

With our destination reached, we hop the short cable fence
and race through the grass.
I chase after my lady love as she dashes madly about
the field and around the saplings.
We laugh like children as we tumble to the ground
as I catch her in my arms' loving embrace.

Intermittent droplets heralds the coming rain.

The camp area just beyond the first field is a patchwork of
sunlight and gray shadows.
Breaks in the clouds overhead make the day appear still
friendly and pleasant.
As a light wind rustles the leaves in the trees around us,
we spread our blanket beneath a tall maple.

Like a thief in the night, the rain slowly creeps across the park
making the day's celebrants scurry for cover.

Lips as soft as a butterfly's whisper gently kiss mine
as I hold my love to me.
Loving hands caress curves both soft and firm
and passion's flame comes alive.
Our love flushed flesh is soon pressing heatedly together.

The falling rain makes the leaves dance and bends the grass
as it taps out a staccato rhythm.
Disappointed eyes look out at the shower from the pavilions.
The cold droplets gently pelting our bodies feel like icy stings
but only takes our passion higher.
Our mouths and tongues hungrily collide in a endless
feast of each other's love.

Moment by moment, the tempo of nature's own rhythm
steadily increases.
In the downpour, distant vistas become blurred and indistinct,
followed by those not so removed.

Faint whisps of steam rise from our rain-soaked skin
as we cling tightly together.
Faster and more urgent our breaths become.

A brilliant flash of light followed momentarily by a deafening
and earth-trembling rumble
Send previously fearless children, both young and old, running
back to sanctuary and safety.
Comforting arms from parents and loved ones encircle them.

A warm rush suffuses through me as my eyes gaze into my lady's
and silence wraps around us.

Nature's fury, seemingly spent in the few minutes of the inundation,
subsides even swifter than it arose.
Laughter and squeals of delight soon return as the children
run out to splash in the puddles.
The sudden storm becomes the topic of discussion as annoyed parents
watch their children play in the mud.

Alone in a world of our own, I hold my love to me.

In her wet, auburn tresses, I whisper, "I love you."
