We are warders with no hands,
fighting back insignificance
with muscles stained with boredom.
The rusty flakes of our tears
track moats in the dust on pale, lifeless skin. The sound track that haunts me
is turned down so low
I can only feel it on my fingertips.
Do not despair of the mute darkness,
it is not the emptiness of nothing,
but rather the stifled rank masses
packed so close together
the light has been lost.
Dead skin flakes away,
and only when two people find contentment
in the company of each other
is the overcrowded lonely put away.
So weep now, for you are alone,
cry out and grasp at the writhing multitudes.
But rather than fear mortality,
embrace the eternity of the instant.
For in that second, "I" will find "You".
And in the crushing embrace of millions,
we are alone, alive, and nothing else matters.
I promise you this instant, and this instant only.
We can speak of it and the past,
for it is all we have left to us.
I am reborn with you.
