You make me wish I never had kids,
sisters or brothers, friends who hover
tell me how much they love me
care for my safety and health
You make me dream I was seventeen
and you were just a few years younger
that we’d met in another time and place
when we could have had a future
You make me regret the cuts to my manhood
without which we could see ourselves
everyday in little ones eyes
reflecting our love’s true passion
But wishes are raindrops washed into a sewer
and dreams are dust wiped up in a rag
regrets are best left buried in a waste can
for without them I wouldn’t be me
The one who you love
