Regret

Strange. The day'd grown wide in sunshine, warm
And lazy and the light was treacle running,
A home-made sweet for comfort – nothing stunning
But welcome like my love's familiar form

And suddenly the afternoon turned cold
When I found I could no more sing along
But had to swallow hard when that sweet song
Was on the air I'd known so well of old.
