The sound of water lapping as you're rowing
just prior to the snuffing of the light –
The sky is overcast. Tall rushes growing
on soggy banks bar half the sky from sight
and loss of heart makes for a further slowing
of heavy oars. You won't reach home tonight.

*sigh*

Even when you "bend up each corporal agent" to the task, sometimes, it's just not enough! I can hear the heavy sigh of resignation, and feel the burn in those arms that plied the oars to no avail.
