Distance seems outside our word-web tryst.
Your presence hangs before my outstretched hand;
Confessions dribble from my unclenched fist,
Longing fills the miles our lives demand.
Intoxicating words that fill my mind -
Emotions I’d thought rusted past repair.
I savor every hint of fire. I find
The workings of my heart hum softly there.
The requisite sensations disappear,
Replaced by giddy smiles and sweet surprise.
Reluctance mixed with need will turn to fear -
Amazement at the heart beneath the guise
Of all I thought I’d left within my youth -
The bittersweet desire that is my truth.
