two souls staring at each other across the abyss

death
yet the pulse thrives on
the heart beats but the soul,
so dark
so desperate to rise is
trapped.

deeper
into the darkness it searches the corners
for specks of light
but cracks in the foundation have been sealed nothing shines though the concrete blocks.

a reasonable place to sleep until the slate withers with time.
but time is unreasonable.
and the soul has no patience for the clicking of clocks

nails dig into the walls,
screeching across the desert.
the nails chip, breaking off in bloody trails. the cinder blocks are unmoved, an sympathetic force to the struggle of release.

collapsing.

Scrapes along her breast and back
reminding her of the thrills, the feeling
the life the energy -mania

pain is the only thing that links the two souls. the only peace.
a slow transcendence to peace.
a string, fraying, yet still pulling the souls together.
melding.

feeling alive under the
whip, the blade, the ropes
she thrives in this world of destruction.
her soul flying above the world watching the scene quietly,
with every scream of pain she smiles.
feeling more with each lash and cut, closer to
humanity.
her head falling against him.
exhausted
peace.
feeling nothing but
happiness.
the ropes loosen, bringing her back
down to reality.
the crowd mulls about, transfixed on the scene.
she smiles as an arm wraps about her to help her walk.
her body limp, but alive.
finally at peace with the world
-for now.
