Rivers Are Damp

I nearly drowned
in a river of words.
They just kept coming,
flowing over me until I could
barely breathe.
They were moving
so fast and furious
that I couldn't absorb them
or spit them back out
fast enough. I was swept along
not knowing where the river led
until you read me and
pulled me from its mindless
trek. You warmed me by your fire
and showed me where to go.
You did not lead,
only pointed and said
the finest words
I ever heard
"Now go on-your way."
