On a moonless night
as the city slept
he crept to the black oval’s edge
swept the water
beneath his hands
the sands of sadness
rinsed from his feet
he arrived at the middle
his heartbeat slowed
and he slipped beneath the surface
drifting downward
slowly, he bottomed out
surrounded by silt
wrapped in weeds
he wondered about those
who ran circuits
day after day after day
around the lake
how do they do it?

Darkness

Darkness here, captures me. Like the dark murky waters, this poems draws the reader in. Just carries us, till the end. Liked this one a lot.
