In an upside-down world

children will hang on clotheslines drying
shirts will go roundabout running
waves will shine in dazzling line
stars will lap in watery brine

smacks will fall soft on the face
kisses leave you in shocked daze
horses will canter at crawling pace
snails gallop without a trace

and you would turn to hold my hand
smile, and nod, and understand
the words that fall quick from my lips
the quirks that speak with sharp hairflips

you would tell me things,
and do them too
fashion rings
of rendezvous

you'd climb the sky to bring me stars
to string in eyelet necklaces
write my name on chocolate bars
and scatter sugar in tiny traces

that's what it'd be like
in a world upside down

when walking away -
you'd turn around
and smile love into my day
