if you've sat in the sun to absorb one cloud-
if you've ever thought to leap the sill
because the ground beneath looked dark and inviting-
then you have hung from this branch lightly
UNDERSTANDING
if the music of crickets ends your conversation-
if you have a one-track mind with a derailed train-
if you are blinded by the glare of a smile
coming from a stranger or an old friend-
then this candle may have dripped on your fingers
FORGIVENESS
if what is, is never where you are-
if you wish for something like dandelion fluff-
if a single sound in a minor key shakes your ears
without a source to silence it and no respite comes with sleep-
then this blue bowl of letters has no crack in it
RESOLUTION
if your life is a whirl of stasis-
if you are busy beyond speech and listening-
if your sky has no room for a single bird
because in between clouds the wind is too harsh-
then this cactus leans on a cold window
