"Sanctity"

How do you I let you know how I feel
Without giving it all away
Without sacrificing the sanctity of what is
For those few brief moments of what could be
Only to have them ripped from my heart once more
Like petals plucked from a rose
By some careless lover.
I know. . .yes, I know what that outcome will be
And so, with a stone-cold conviction
I set out to do what I know I must
With tears on my face so pure
That they shine with the crimson blood that flows through my soul.
And if by some whim of Eros you disregard what I'm about to speak
Look on my pallid face and my blood stricken tears
And know that I speak true
