Black asphalt oval
Four lanes of metal madness
propelled by workday fury

Damn the stop lights!
Full speed ahead
Woe to the poor plodding

pedestrian who dares,
to come between
them and their homes

and place of business.
They would be reduced
to a limp bag of bones

At the eye of this storm
Liquid diamond reflection
Calls to its inhabitants

Return to sanctuary
from your journey
to foreign feeding fields

But how to traverse
the death zone, the raging
rapids of speeding steel,

separating these feathered stragglers
from safe harbor
and evening repose

Honk! Honk!
Look both ways-

A webbed foot
steps from the curb

Cars screech!
Drivers gaze-

at the parade
of the brave and fearless
fouls flouting death
What is the hurry after all?
We all reach home eventually.
