my heart was in my eyes
bleeding tears of apology
jesus never wept so much as I did
when I reached out trembling fingers
to touch the skin above your heart

and met your eyes

harsh hands seized my head
pulled me toward that punishing
mouth for your naked yearning kiss
my hands pushing, mind protesting
'this is not what I came here for'

blood coated my tongue

there is something sacred
in tears they say
but all I tasted in mine was salt
annointing the wounded heart
keening its lachrymose lament

for a stillborn love

Enjoyed your read

Of blood and tears

That leaves love's ground barren...
