She took several lovers
But always kept them hidden
The never stayed too long
His name they heard unbidden
The men they saw her drifting
Her lovers said "please explain"
She didn't want to lose them
So she tried to hide her pain
She tried to fit the mould and shape
So desired by them as familiar
But he'd broken the mould and cut her
Like clay, to fit his shape, peculiar
Like bad fruit at the grocers
People squeeze but no one buys
She feared the ultimate loneliness
A life of painful goodbyes
Looking for her old self
A self so hard to find
She found only the scars
His ghost had left within her mind.
A rented tear so deep and livid
When love was ripped from her soul
She searched for a healing balm
That could help to make her whole
