Long shadows of afternoon
have fallen from the day
your eyes closed twitch slightly
delicate moving lid skin away
from these last streams of light

You shift in respiring shimmery mass
and I curl close to that warmth
proven to melt my glacial years
we flow together against encroaching
night will pass as all things must

When you open your eyes turn
with that look that undoes me
searching for something small
but locked some seamless safety
you find in mine

it says so much

about the first few times you curl up with a love.

still guarded, still afraid and yet

so open to the joy of just being there and seeing the transcendental nature of every day life.

really wonderful snapshot

thank you

once again

you touch our hearts with recognition. The simple joy of watching a loved one sleeping then waking. The second verse is just lovely and says so much about you, dear Ange.

Seems sew

"Long shadows of afternoon

have fallen from the day"

is a beautiful line,

but the transition to

dark and night sleep

seems abrupt and a seam.

If you are only naughty-napping

then don't let night encroach.

Just enjoy as we do your words.

I get out of it seeing someone with a new lover, trying to hold on to those quickly fleeing moments of the first few weeks. I liked this one a lot.
