He locked her in an ivory tower
And clipped her ivory wings,
Huddled in her jaded shadows
Spirit broken, her destiny mapped by him.

Resigned to the tormented whispers of those
Who'd accepted a fate such as hers.
Eyes vacant and staring, with tears long gone,
Shivering in the chill of her solitude.

'Til that small beam of sunlight
Radiated throughout the darkness,
Dispersing the shadows.
She craved its touch, but...

How it angered and frightened her
Invading her safe, private cell
Lightly kissing her tear-stained cheeks
With tongues of fire.

She turned away feeling guilty and ashamed,
Trained by her lover's threats
She rejected its warmth and security
And resumed her darkened, gloomy post.

Safe...
IN HER SECLUSION!
